The SWaM 2026 National Conference on Stormwater Management, jointly organized by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia and the Malaysian Stormwater Organization, will serve as a key platform addressing Malaysia’s growing stormwater challenges. With increasing occurrences of flash floods, urban drainage constraints, and rapid development intensifying runoff, the conference places strong emphasis on enhancing climate resilience in both stormwater quality and quantity management.
Building on the success of previous SWaM conferences, SWaM 2026 continues to promote sustainable and climate-adaptive practices aligned with national priorities. The theme, “Inspired by nature, engineered for resilience,” highlights a transformative shift toward nature-based solutions such as green infrastructure, wetlands, and bio-retention systems, alongside with sustainable stormwater management. These approaches are critical in developing systems capable of managing extreme rainfall, protecting ecosystems, and integrating with modern urban development.
The conference offers valuable insights beyond conventional academic learning, featuring real-world case studies, updates on MSMA implementation strategies, and the latest tools and modelling techniques in stormwater management. It brings together a diverse network of engineers, policymakers, developers, contractors, and researchers, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Attendees will gain early exposure to evolving policies, regulatory frameworks, and industry expectations, providing a competitive edge in their professional development. SWaM 2026 ultimately equips participants with future-ready knowledge, practical industry insights, and meaningful networking opportunities essential for advancing careers in civil engineering, environmental management, and urban planning.
